Pop Awards 2019: Artist Of The Year Award
Winner: The Carters

It may be no surprise to fans worldwide that the trophy for Artist Of The Year goes to The Carters, the wife-and-husband supergroup of Beyonce and Jay-Z. Leave it up to the BeyHive, in particular, to show up and make sure their votes count when it comes to the “Bonnie & Clyde” duo. The reigning queen and king of hip-hop entertainment proved just how “Apeshit” crowds could go with their epic world tour. Even further, The Carters headlined South Africa’s Global Citizen Festival in December helping to bring in billions of dollars in pledges to aid the United Nations’ anti-poverty effort. In addition to last year’s success of their first collaborative album “Everything Is Love” and second round of their On The Run tour, The Carters have stayed busy with contributions to social justice initiatives and human rights advocacy. Congratulations to The Carters on winning the Artist Of The Year Award at the Pop Awards 2019!

Other nominees: Anderson Paak, Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake, Lauren Daigle

The impressive release of Tash Sultana’s “Flow State” debut LP has proven to leave an impression on listeners who voted it the winner of the Album Of The Year category. This masterpiece is a collection of psychedelic love songs, all written and produced by Sultana, who played every instrument on the album in ways only a true virtuoso is able to pull off. The soulful and eclectic project cross-pollinates styles as varied as R&B and world music with introspective, trippy vibes. The wizardry of “Flow State” boasts lush vocals and deep compositions like “Big Smoke”, “Murder To The Mind”, and “Salvation”. Congratulations to Tash Sultana on winning the Album Of The Year Award at the Pop Awards 2019!

Other nominees: Nao – “Saturn”, Passenger – “Runaway”, Ty – “A Work Of Heart”, Welshly Arms – “No Place Is Home”

Pop Awards 2019: Song Of The Year Award
Winner: Justin Timberlake (featuring Chris Stapleton) – “Say Something”

It’s nearly impossible to listen and not sing along to the chorus of Justin Timberlake’s hit single “Say Something”, which was voted the winner of the Song Of The Year category. Utterly infectious in melody and in lyrical content, this tune came about due to an ongoing collaborative relationship between Timberlake and country musician Chris Stapleton, who had planned to only write it for JT’s “Man Of The Woods” album. But Justin had something better in mind and asked him to sing on the recording, turning “Say Something” into a powerful duet. With the soulful vocal harmonies of Timberlake and Stapleton, this truly becomes the feel good song it was written to be. Congratulations to Justin Timberlake on winning the Song Of The Year Award at the Pop Awards 2019!

Other nominees: Barbra Streisand – “Lady Liberty”, David Guetta & Sia – “Flames”, Jonathan Jeremiah – “Good Day”, Rita Coolidge (featuring Keb’ Mo’) – “Walking On Water”

Pop Awards 2019: Emerging Artist Of The Year Award
Winner: Tash Sultana

The multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter known as Tash Sultana hails from Australia and can play about 20 instruments, including guitar, bass, piano, trumpet, flute, saxophone, and percussion. Before being voted the Emerging Artist Of The Year, Sultana went viral by releasing creative and original songs on the internet that solidified a fan base. This stroke of luck eventually led to a sold-out world tour and the release of the acclaimed debut album “Flow State”. As if that creative feat and ingenuity wasn’t enough, the gender-fluid artist is also an inspiration to countless fans for strides made as a recovering drug addict. Congratulations to Tash Sultana on winning the Emerging Artist Of The Year Award at the Pop Awards 2019!

Fifty years later, as a classic rock stalwart and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Sir Paul McCartney is still selling out arenas across the globe. With his latest album he returned to the top of the charts proving that his catalogue is indeed timeless.
