Anchor & Braille – Tension

popmag000714-tension

“Tension”, fourth full-length record by Anchor & Braille, was released today. The new album comes four years after “Songs For The Late Night Drive Home” and more than a decade after the debut album “Felt”. Anchor & Braille is the solo project of Stephen Christian who was the frontman of former alternative rock band Anberlin. Under the alias Anchor & Braille, Christian has etched out a sound and style distinct from his previous work. “Tension” is another installment which embroiders contemporary indie pop with stylistic simplicity. The album opens with “No Ordinary”, a song that effortlessly pulls the listener in. The thrill continues with the teasing beat of “Dangerous” and the other-worldly vibe in “Slow Motion”. The penultimate track, “Madness”, is completely maddening with its smooth vocals and the crescendo of the electric guitar toward the end of the song.
